mortising tool / machine Explanation: Assuming this question concerns a tool rather than just an (essential) part (a bit), there are several reliable options. Kluwer Groot Polytechnisch Woordenboek moreover mentions (relevant to wood): 'trepanning' and 'gin drilling'. As far as I remember from technical colleagues, I'd recommend to opt for 'mortising'.
