The echo of history Explanation: This is one of those phrases that does not have a single neat equivalent in English. I collect solutions to the problem! (and others.) Here are some I have used on different occasions. Where you can re-live history -- I used this recently of a forest trail in Sweden Follow in the historic footsteps of XXX (in a castle or monument where XXX was involved in historic events) Go back in history along ... (a shopping street or other site still in modern use) The walls and pillars exude history (a castle where dramatic events occurred) History echoes through its halls and chambers ( a stately home) |

This is used often in connection with aviation but it is also used poetically to express the passage of time. Above is a link to a speech by Benjamin Netanyahu where he quotes his brother using this expression in the last paragraph.
