Danish term or phrase: plejer er død
Plejer er død

Also in the form ´giv slip på plejer´

... jeg hører rigtig mange herlige historier, hvor der er skabt forvandling, og det der blev opfattet som problemer forsvandt ud af den blå luft. ... Det sker rigtig ofte når forældre og medarbejdere giver slip på plejer.

´Plejer er død´ is a chapter heading, and my text is about dealing with children, preferably avoiding conflicts by avoiding misundertandings, and about solving problems that do arise.

The expression comes up in connection with situations that seem to be deadlocked - nothing helps and everyone is angry and frustrated. What is needed is something completely unexpected, possibly unconventional and against ´normal´ accepted practice and principles of upbringing. Looking at the child´s point of view instead of the theories and usual ways of doing things.

I simply cannot think of anything that matches this expression in English!

Skip ´always´
Forget what you usually do
Drop the rules
Take a new turn
Not the same old same old ...

I don´t like ´think outside the box´: I think it irritates a lot of people - including me - rather more than ´plejer er død´.

So far ´Do something different!´ is the best solution I can think of.
Any suggestions gratefully accepted!
