Chinese term or phrase: Oysters
Hello Oyster Fans. Please don't be shellfish (pun intended) and feel free to reply :)

What's the most commonly used Chinese character(s) to describe oysters?

I've living in various parts of China and each have their own word(s) to describe it.

Dalian has: 海蠣子

I've also seen other people refer to it as 蛤蠣, 蚝, 蚵仔 (閩南話)

I'm sure other local dialects use different characters.

My question is. Which one word / character do most people understand in China?

上过9年学(初中毕业)的任何人,都应该都在学校的课本里学到过牡蛎这个名词,不管在中国的任何地方。而中国政府规定,每个人都必须读完9年级,这是每个公民的义务。因此,所有的中国人都应该认识这个词语。这个是全中国统一的名词,其他所有的说法,都是方言词汇。

Explanation:
Hello!

The best equivalent is 生蚝. Other names, such as 海蛎,牡蛎,are correct as well, but people do not eat 海蛎 or 牡蛎 raw.....
