Catalan term or phrase: belleres
In the description of the village of Capafonts:

era , plural eres, is a threshing floor

Explanation:
... where cereals and vegetables are left to beat them to separate the grains from the straw.
This whatI found in a rext about the village of Capafonts, where they speakabout 'eres', and not belleres.
Hope it helps you onthe path.

Asker: The eres are mentioned elsewhere so I don't think it's the same thing...thanks though...

manor houses (?)

Explanation:
From the context Sue found, these appear to be houses belonging to the Bellera family (I am guessing they were local nobility). Could it be manor houses? If your deadline is looming, this looks like a good time for a fudge such as Sue's suggested "ancient buildings" - ;-)
