I found catboat, but I'm not sure if it's correct.

'Barge' comes to mind because in your extra context it says the boats were pulled by mules. Nowadays the barges that cross the river at Miravet are moved with the help of ropes and a punter. When the river is too high, there's no service and you have to cross the river by bridge at Tortosa or Mora d'Ebre.

El nombre
La palabra llagut o llaüt crea cierta confusión porque se usa por designar naves muy diferentes. A la vez, el mismo llagut del Ebro puede ser denominado indistintamente llaüt o llagut durante una conversación. Si hemos elegido la forma llagut es por la tendencia observada entre la gente del Delta a usarla preferentemente, más que utilizar la palabra llaüt. El llagut de río es una barca de fondo plano, de lados rectos y forma alargada, con una proporción de 6 a 1 entre la eslora y la manga, que usaba vela cuadrada y que estaba diseñada para el transporte interior a lo largo del río. Los otros llaguts son parientes ficticios, sólo de nombre, y extrañamente la barca arrocera, que sí que se asemeja mucho, tiene el nombre completamente diferente. Los muy denominados llaguts de mar de Tortosa eran, en realidad, una variante de los “xabecs” mediterráneos, veleros ligeros de vela latina, pero más grandes que el llagut del Ebro, y que llegaban en sus viajes a Italia y la costa andaluza. El llagut de pesca lo encontramos por toda la costa catalana y balear, con formas marineras y aparato latino, tampoco se asemeja en nada al llagut del Ebro, sólo en el nombre.
