Catalan term or phrase: amb un criteri de selecció ampli
As I'm at it, I would also appreciate your suggestions on how to translate the above phrase. A literal translation sounds very forced to me.
thanks!

amb un criteri de selecció ampli, es centra en els títols que s’interessin pels diversos aspectes de l’actualitat

Explanation:
What I'd do is to fold the meaning of the phrase into where "diversos" is, something like "... titles that [s'interessin pel] broad range of [aspectes de l'actualitat]." Not very original, no, but the coffee hasn't kicked in yet. For my money, "criteri" is seldom best translated by "criterion".

Thanks. I changed it around completely using 'broad range' Fine by client.

with a broad selection criteria

Explanation:
'with a broad selection criteria' does sound a bit forced but is used.

See www.nara.gov/records/igguide.html

The following example includes broad selection criteria.

1. Investigative files.

or see web.mit.edu/sapr3/docs/webdocs/reports/rpRFselop.html

Be very careful when using this type of selection criteria, especially if you have authorization for many profit centers and/or cost objects. Even if your authorizations are limited, avoid unintentionally entering broad selection criteria. This could cause the report to run for an extremely long period of time

with a wide range of criteria

Explanation:
I guess with this suggestion we eliminate the "forced" translation of "a criteria", which is really incorrect.

-> Thanks for the comment. It really sounds better with "using."

agree  Sheila Hardie: yes, and I agree that 'using' would sound better:)

Explanation:
amb un criteri de selecció ampli, es centra en els títols que s’interessin pels diversos aspectes de l’actualitat

The ampli implies plural in fact even though criteri is singular

What comes before the amb, maybe a verb would work better (applying for example), rather than the lame amb?
