Part 2.

Original:

My rough draft:

Excerpt from a letter from Jacint Verdaguer to Cosme Vidal dated 14 June 1896. Biography of Cosme Vidal written by hand by Andrew Barbarà of Alcover.

Let Jesus be the beloved friend of our dear friend Aladern (...) Every morning I make promises, I return to mass, and every afternoon I see them broken, others don’t fare any better. Praise be to God. Praise Him for our trials and praise Him for the prosperity that He delivers to me, as your book "Verdaguer reivindicat” [Verdaguer Vindicated]. Never has such poetry been seen, nor have my books been elevated, nor has so much been done to honour to his poor diligent author when I was poorer and miserable and cast out by even his protectors, friends and relatives ...

English translation:I have promises that my prayers will be heard
Explanation:
Literally "mass will be given back to me", but this does not make much sense. I think it goes along those lines.

Thanks again, Ben, but I'm not sure I deserve it this time. Cheers!

neutral  Berni Armstrong: Promises sounds odd in this context. If you go with prayers being answered, I'd use: "I hope my prayers will be answered.... only to see those hopes dashed in the evening..."
