I have no idea really what they mean here. I gave it a wild shot in the dark below. This is a flowery text explaining the fascinating (?) history of a small town, sort of promotional, sort of informational, sort of boasting, heavy on the verbosity and "cleverness".

Any ideas?

La vila ha posat en valor el seu nucli històric, com un baluard infranquejable del seu passat i patrimoni cultural, l’entorn natural, d’una bellesa excepcional, i importants edificacions històriques que, com el convent franciscà de Sta. Barbara, l’abandonament gairebé els havia sentenciat.

Rough draft.
The town has placed special emphasis on its historic centre – an unparalleled monument to its past and cultural heritage – its exceptionally beautiful natural surroundings, and important historical buildings such as the Franciscan Convent of Saint Barbara, all of which seemingly were in use just a day before.
