heir, and heiress Explanation: This is a special system in Catalan civil right, which is different from the Spanish civil right. The heir/hereu, is the oldest son who systematically (or sometimes through the will) inherits all the goods of the deceased parent, but has to maintain all the properties to the disposal of all the other members of the family. This is still applied, especially in rural areas. The heiress/pubilla is the oldest daughter, as the only heiress of the property (same system of civil law). |
