OK guys, this one has really got me stumped!! :(

This is a secondary school subject that comes up in the "Associació del Professorat de Física i Química de Catalunya" website, but I can't find a translation anywhere.

How could I say this in English? Is this "General Science"? I'm afraid I'm a bit out of touch, it's 20 years since I was at school!

Thank you all in advance,

Chris.

This is a new course introduced in Spain in 2008, taken in 11th grade (primer de batxillerat). It looks like it´s particularly focused on new scientific developments in recent times. In my high school (in the US), we didn´t have a parallel course. You might have to invent a translation unless there is something comparable in another country or school district. What is your target audience?

I thought about ¨science in the modern world¨ but only got hits for college level courses. I will keep think about what this might be called in high school--perhaps ¨everyday science¨or ¨science in our everyday lives¨ or something...

Other options: ¨modern developments in science¨, ¨recent scientific developments: how science effects our lives¨

As none of these is the name of a real high school course as far as I can tell, I´m not going to register a final answer yet.

agree  Berni Armstrong: Agree with Tony that it is obvious what the literal translation means. Catalan courses do get some "flowery" names, don't they? :-)
