سي is not a short form for السيد ! 18:04 Feb 13, 2021
I think an Egyptian /Sudanese translator, among others, with socio-linguistics background cannot and will never agree on using “Mr.” in this particular informal context. To use “Mr.” as an approximation to “سي” is practically misleading. This is in the sense that the reader would think that the addressee belongs to a specific social class; whose members can never be and it is not socially tactful or acceptable to address any with سي"”. The “سي” may only be used to address a person of a specific social ranking, as it sounds in this particular context. Waiting for a magnanimous Egyptian /Sudanese linguist with a socio-linguistics background to have a say in this respect, if he/she wishes to. |
