Arabic term or phrase:
Hello all,

This is from a young adult novel by Palestinian author Mahmoud Shukair. Dictionaries are telling me that this word means 'stamp' or 'imprint'. I wonder if, in this context, it means 'scar', or, in a more general sense, 'mark'.

In the scene, the young characters (who have given themselves code names) think they have found the thief they have been looking for, because he has a دمغة on his face. It turns out that this is the wrong man, because he doesn't accurately match the description of the actual thief.

Thanks in advance for your help!

a scar/ Mole

Explanation:
In this context, I think the thief has a distinguishing scar, so you may use "dark scar". You can say a "mole" if the thief has been born with it.
