I am struggling to come up with a literary translation for this. The best I can think of is that someone is " too big for his britches" or is a know it all. Any better ideas from native speakers of Arabic? The author is Egyptian.

Asker: Thank you all for your help! I knew what the phrase meant but had a hard time coming up with a saying that would match it in English. Now I think I have it for the context of my translation. "So, he's become an overnight expert." You suggestions got me on the right track. I am new to this site and still fumbling with it but I am sure you'll be hearing from me again. سكراً جزيلاً
