I think we could start with some introductions...sort of letting the world know who we are!
I'll break the ice here....
My name is Soledad Azcona Garrido and I was born in Necochea a town on the Atlantic coast in Argentina, famous for its beautiful beaches and infamous for its strong winds. I'll break the ice here....
My name is Soledad Azcona Garrido and I was born in Necochea a town on the Atlantic coast in Argentina, famous for its beautiful beaches and infamous for its strong winds. There I spent the first seventeen years of my life, between unbecoming cold winters and friendly summers at the beach, till I finally made up my mind and I decided to go for English Translation.
That's when I arrived at La Plata, which at the beginning appeared as this huge mysterious city, being on my own for the first time with my unexperienced 17, but then I gave the city a chance and I found my place and home here. So, I took my translation courses and learned a lot about the profession, specially to love it. I made a bunch of good friends and met a lot of interesting people that turned out to be very important in my professional and personal life. Great years that I hope you are also enjoying!
I am a big cinema fan, almost an addict since I got an Internet connection and was able to find all those lost oldies and difficult to find rarities. And I even made it through the screen (!) participating in some friends' minimum budget filming. My 15 minutes of fame, great fun! I also love music, basically rock and electronic music, but I don't play any instruments, I just enjoy going to concerts whenever I can.
Apart from English, I have taken one year of Italian, French and German. So that I can go to the airporto in Rome, order a café au lait in a Parisian café, or take the Strassenbahn to Berliner Platz and that's it! I hope I can continue with my studies in those languages very soon!
After a couple of years of doing some translations, interpretation and English teaching I have joined ProZ.com to work on this fantastic project. I am very happy working in such a friendly atmosphere with the most brilliant co-workers, and also very thrilled with all there is to come. You see, it is something really huge that we -you and us- are going to create here. We are going to be sharing experiences with fellow students that maybe are at our opposite end of the world and build these extensive cultural bridges that are going to take us to unimagined places. We are going to find new friends among the amazing people in ProZ.com community, learn loads from their experience and surely establish many lifelong relationships. We are going to create together new ways of helping you become better students and better professionals. We are going to do here something that has never been done: we are going to give language students a place that belongs to you all. We are offering you the world, so...embrace it!
Once, talking about this student area, my wise boss said to me “The sky is the limit”, and here I am ready to go. I hope that you will join me in this wonderful journey!

Ok erm... Hi folks ! So, I´m French (sorry, nobody´s perfect...:p), 23 years old and comes from Languedoc, the beautiful Roman city of Nîmes in the South but I travelled a lot through my dad´s job - I lived for a long time in Vienna in Austria when I was younger and my family is half-German.
So languages and intercultural communication are a real passion for me - I just love the feeling of bringing people from two different cultures together simply through the language - I strongly believe that language is the only key if you want to understand and therefore respect a culture and everything that comes with it (history, traditions....).
Last year I got my degree in foreign languages (English German Russian) and currently in my 4th year at the ESTRI in Lyon, a Translation and International Relations School - so preparing a master in translation. As a student job I work as English and German teacher in a secondary school during the year
I intend to become a freelancer and/or create my own translation agency but not yet, maybe in 5/7 years - I first want to get experience and specialisation - in France, becoming a freelancer from the beginning when you have no experience and no reputation is quite dangerous and many young translators lead a very difficult life.
Well, what else... I have 3 cats and I'm just crazy about them, I sing, and do a lot of sports (running, swimming, riding, gym...)
Well, that will do for the moment - hope that wasn´t too boring I look forward to read you and better get to know you all !

I left with a one way ticket for Australia.
I travelled around the country, then lived in Melbourne with a girl from Argentina and some Aussies.. and stayed there long enough to get married to an Australian! Anyway, in Melbourne I used to teach Italian and translate, and that's when I fell in love with translations.
We live in Italy now, near Genoa. I work as an English teacher and I'm trying to become a professional translator. I have a degree in education, and I'm currently studying translation (MA in financial and business translation). Like Anne, my aim is to become a professional freelance translator, but, yep, it's hard.
I love languages, I speak English and Spanish and I'd really like to learn a new one, possibly Chinese or Arabic, but not now, not enough time.
What else? I practice yoga and trying, but just really trying, to learn the electic guitar

It happened on the USAF Air Base located near Karshi, the town where I am from. There I began learning French, Spanish and Italian. I also try to ameliorate myself in English. My native language is Russian, but I know Uzbek as a State language as well. I am trying to make the process of learning to be steadfast and interminable at one time. I know it sounds very “strange” but if the learning of new language is a pleasant thing as well as planned and continuous, a language learner will be in a good way. This is what I am trying to do. I really like learning new languages, and just have to put my “languages’ love” into a right stream.
Well, let me tell you a little bit about my parents. My father is working as the water inspector. I mean, he is not a policeman, or the other representative of "that sort of professions". Umm, he just checks, for example, water reservoirs, or other aqua objects such as lakes, and defines what amount of water can be spent for the melioration of fields.
My mom is an ecologist. She has been working in this branch for 25 years.
Their salary, the combined one I mean, is about 70 dollars per month. The financial difference between Uzbekistan and United States is as great as the difference between Pacific Ocean and Loch-Ness Lake : )
I have a dream, to move to Australia, Europe or to the States, buy a good bright house for my family. That's why I am looking for a job of interpreter or translator. I can speak English, Uzbek, French, and Russian of course (Russian is my native language) fluently, and Spanish and Italian as an intermediate speaker.
I want to become a self-made man. I would like to build my destiny by my own hands.

I love rock music and animals, I would like to act against violence on animals ( now I'm working in a kennel...) and I have 3 dogs Teo, Tigra and Rhum and..I love themmmm!

My name is Marie Tounissoux and I live in Canada. I'm originaly from the province of Québec, but I lived 4 years in Alberta and the last 2 in Nova Scotia. For those who don't know their canadian geography, well, just know that the drive, when we moved from Alberta to Nova Scotia, was over 4000km... Huge and beautiful country!

So I had to learn, and learn quickly, as I was delivering educational programs in english for a big museum. Then I married an anglo.... yeah... and I'm proud to say that we are raising our 16month old daughter to be bilingual. I only speak french to her, and her dad english.
In school, I did a bachelor degree in archaeology, with minor in physical anthropology and primatology. After graduating, I worked in palaeontology for 4 years and got to translate a few very technical articles to and from the French (mainly in the field of palaeontology, but also fisheries, museology, archaeology and geology). It was such a great experience that I decided early on that I would eventually do it as a profession. And here I am now, completing a translation certificate (that might turn into a bachelor degree in the end) with the CUSB of Manitoba (yet another province of Canada).
I made an attempt at learning spanish a few years ago, but had nobody to practice with, so I guess I probably lost most of the little I got to learn. The same thing happened when I learned a bit of german in university. When I get to be less busy (will it ever happen?), I would just love to get back to my spanish books! For now, being a stay home mom and a student fills my days! (and nights...)
My husband and I are thinking about working overseas eventually, when Zia is big enough to go to school. That would be a great experience for us and for her. I'd love to teach languages to little ones! Ultimately, I'd love to be a freelance translater and work from home. It might take me many years to get there, but I'm still young and I just love working toward my goal. No dreams, no life!
Oh, and message for Said: You HAVE your destiny in your own hands. Time and hardwork will get you what you dream of. Just keep dreaming, work, and be patient. I'll all come to you one day. Unfortunately, we can't always control every step of the way, but every experience is worth living, as it'll make you grow. Good luck!

I started my T&I studies when I was nearly 19. I first chose English as my first foreign language and French as my second one. However, on my second year I decided to swap French for Arabic. I continued learning French, though, as well as Italian. I also speak some basic (very basic) German.
About two years ago I decided to take one year off my studies in order to go to England, improve my English and do a bit of travelling. I also spent a summer in Damascus learning Arabic. My long-term plans include improving my German and spending some time in Berlin - a city I visited recently and was fascinated at.
I absolutely love cinema and TV and my ambition is to work in audiovisual translation, which is why I will be taking further training on that field after I finish my degree in September.

I got my high school graduation in Reims, northern France, some years ago, mainly (if not exclusively) due to language subjects. At least, I did not have to consider what to do next for long.
For two years I continued studying English and started Chinese in the University of Montpellier, southern France.
But to be honnest, there I quite did not have the feeling to progress enough in both languages for some reasons (I won't detail, I'd be confused to whine before proper introductions are made).
So I moved this year to China, to intensively study Chinese in Sichuan University after a month of summer class in Beijing.
Here I am, partly to keep in touch with English while I am far, far away, and partly cause I got seduced by the freelance stuff and I'd like to give it a try myself, when I can. ▲ Collapse
