Here is a report on news and advancements for the first half of 2012, since the year-end report to members for 2011.*
Over 20,000 language professionals are currently investing in their businesses through ProZ.com membership, thereby helping to increase the tools and opportunities available at ProZ.com, both for members and for non-members.
Job flow through ProZ.com, which has risen steadily since bouncing back in 2010, has been healthy in the first part of 2012, with March being the record month in activity so far in the year. Posted jobs continue to rise, and directory and profile searches-- the most common ways in which work gets passed on the site-- are also up.

In January, Certified PRO Network certification in a second language pair was opened (find out more here). The Certified PRO Network (CPN) currently has just over 3,000 members and counting.
The translation center, in which NGOs served by Translators without Borders can post requests for translation, and willing translators can accept and deliver the work on a pro bono basis, accepted over one million words in the first 4 months of 2012, an increase of 52% over the same period in 2011. Since January 2011, volunteers have worked in 73 languages including Bengali, Gujarati, Haitian-Creole, Malayalam, Marathi, Somali, Telugu, Yoruba, and Swahili. About 40% of these volunteers are members of the ProZ.com Certified PRO Network.
Appreciation and recognition are due to all who donate their time and skill to helping others this way, be it through Translators without Borders or other organizations performing humanitarian work. The following Translators without Borders volunteers have made outstanding contributions so far this year:

In addition, free webinars and "free webinar weeks" are being offered regularly. Some of these free webinars are member-only webinars (see more here). "Free webinar weeks" have been held once a month, where all site users can attend sessions to learn more about the use of different CAT tools and translator software solutions.
Behind the scenes, additional improvements have been made to the general performance of the site.
In Support, the average time it takes to address requests from ProZ.com members has improved, and during weekdays support staff can now be reached 24 hours a day via the online support system.
Two new features have been released since the last report:
- The Site guidance center, dedicated to tools, tutorials, and information to help site users get what they need from site to expand their businesses and improve their work, while networking and having fun. From here you can check your visibility to potential clients and see how to improve it, get help with profile completion (a strong profile along with membership are the keys to meeting new clients at ProZ.com), check and register for upcoming free webinars, participate in the ProZ.com mentoring program, and so on.
- The Translator scam alert center, designed as a hub for information sharing on false job offers and other scams targeting language professionals. If you think you may have a scam on your hands, or would like to report one, the scam alert center is a good place to start. ProZ.com members have the option to subscribe to instant alerts or weekly digests of new scams as they are detected, as well as periodic newsletters covering tips and tricks in scam detection and management, general information on risk management for translators and interpreters, and other useful news.
In relation to the work being done with the Translator scam alert center, new controls have been implemented which have significantly improved the way in which potential scam messages are detected, leading so far to hundreds of scam messages having been caught before they can reach ProZ.com users' inboxes.
