  • Dear members,

First, thank you for supporting ProZ.com with your membership investment! It is thanks to this support that the tools and opportunities the site has to offer, and new features and other advances, are possible.

Here is a report on advances made in the second half of 2011, since the mid-year report to members in May.

  • Job flow through ProZ.com continued its increase through the second half of the year.

Posted jobs on ProZ.com over time.

Posted jobs are up, as are directory and profile searches (these last two are the most common way in which work is passed on the site).

  • The Blue Board, the searchable database of language job outsourcers with feedback from service providers, has grown. There are currently over 17,000 records for outsourcers, and more than 92,000 Likelihood of Working Again (LWA) feedback entries have been made. Willingness to Work Again (WWA) feedback entries from outsourcers to language professionals have risen as well; just over 54,000 WWA entries have been made to date, and around 17,500 language professionals have received positive feedback from outsourcers.

  • Membership continues to climb steadily. More than 1,000 members have joined ProZ.com since the last report. Over 18,000 language professionals currently invest in their businesses through ProZ.com membership. As the number of paying members grows, so do the benefits which membership provides.

  • The translation center reported on earlier in the year, in which NGOs served by Translators without Borders can post requests for translation, and willing translators can accept and deliver the work on a pro bono basis, has enabled the delivery of over two million words so far in 2011.

  • Site guidance, the service dedicated to helping members get the most out of their ProZ.com experiences, began reaching more people through the Site guide program, a team made up of volunteers who are well-versed in the site and its features and who are dedicated to helping others with their use of ProZ.com. The Profile help forum was established as a place to give and get advice and share approaches on building a great ProZ.com profile (membership gives you a high level of visibility, and your profile is what you are showing with that visibility, so a strong profile which reflects you professionally is important). On September 27th, as part of the virtual events series leading up to the annual Translation Day virtual conference, a special Site guidance event was held to share these and other strategies, with nearly 2,000 participants. Over 4,000 language professionals have signed up for free site guidance webinars such as Meeting clients at ProZ.com, Expanding your translation business, Getting started in translation, and Risk management for translators in this second half of the year.

  • The Moderator class of 2011-2012 began its activity on August 3rd. This is the third class of site moderators to rotate through service annually since the moderator program was redefined in 2009.

In ProZ.com events, the following in-person conferences were held:

The third ProZ.com conference in Brazil will be held in Rio on 12 and 13 November, and a seminar for students and new translators will take place in Kharkiv, Ukraine, on 10 December.

This year, the annual virtual conference celebrating Translation Day (30 September) was preceded by a week of virtual events, consisting of nearly 50 hours of content. These included:

Over 8,000 attendees participated in these events. The on-demand period for the 2011 virtual event series will last until December 31, 2011. All ProZ.com members have access to the on-demand content.

  • In Translator training, over 400 courses are now available. More than 10,000 language professionals have made use of ProZ.com training to date.

  • Behind the scenes, more improvements have been made to site page delivery and general performance.

A few new features have been released since the last report, including:

  • The ProZ.com Hall of Fame, which honors extraordinary contributions to the site and the community.
  • The ProZ.com gift shop, which features ProZ.com-related merchandise for the home or office.
  • An area dedicated to publishing State of the translation industry reports. These reports, which take a look at trends affecting translators, will be released annually.

    Appreciation

Thanks goes out to many members for contributions to the accomplishments listed here and for other improvements being made to ProZ.com. In particular, the following members have influenced activity in this second half of 2011 with their contributions, suggestions and feedback:

Christine Lam, Ingo Dierkschnieder, Eric Candle, Niraja Nanjundan, Claudia Brauer, Ana Resende, Odette Grille, Abdelhalim Zeid, Susan Wang, zipang, Çağdaş Karataş, Mohammad Reza Razaghi, Abdul Mukhid, the many members who took the time to respond to surveys, emails, and conversations which helped build this year's State of the translation industry report, The 2011-2012 class of site moderators, the members of the Certified PRO Network and other volunteers who have responded so generously to calls for volunteers on Translators without Borders projects, ProZ.com trainers, and the 2011 ProZ.com conference organizers: Konstantin Kisin, Daniela Zambrini, Oleg Rudavin, Hristina Dojčinova, Gary Smith, Laureana Pavon and Filipe Alverca.
