Yes, but remove the Kudoz points... and Kudoz is gone! Let's be honest folks: I enjoy helping as much as the next person, but if Kudoz points disappeared I would not feel inclined to help as much as I do today. As already expressed, Kudoz means sharing valuable insight and sometimes also some work. I want something in exchange. Call me selfish, or simply call me human! The information you can freely access today is the result of the point system and a desire of being recognised and appearing higher in the rank. As simple as that. Do you want to see Kudoz alive and kicking, always at your service? Then do not scrap the points. | | | Maciek Drobka Poland Local time: 22:14 Member (2006) English to Polish + ... There is no incentive for new members to participate in the KudoZ competition because there is no way they can ever get to the top or even close to it. (...) The idea of getting to the top of the rankings, and winning new cilents because of that, was a HUGE incentive for me when I subscribed to English>Polish KudoZ notifications two years ago. After a year of putting a lot of effort into answering KudoZ questions, I was already safely in the top 10 for general English to Polish, and number 1 to 5 in my top specialisations. That had a huge impact on my customer base, proving that the effort had been worthwhile. So my experience tells me that hard work over a relatively short period of time can get you to the top of the rankings. Maciek | | | As in anything! | Jun 25, 2009 |

Tomás Cano Binder, CT wrote: Hm... Maybe we are forgetting something here: a customer's decision will not be based on Kudoz points only. Kudoz points may help deciding among a group of candidates with similar experience and qualifications, but are not the only consideration for a customer. In that case, I suppose you would have no problem if we remove KudoZ as one of the search factors (or filters) then. Tomás Cano Binder, CT wrote: Yes, but remove the Kudoz points... and Kudoz is gone! Says who. Has any experiment been tried to ascertain it? Not everyone is driven for points and rewards for something they call help. But you might be correct that some point grabbers would not be too enthusiastic anymore, but on the other hand, some other good translators would start answering again. And based on this poll below, 52% out of 1744 votes would still answer KudoZ questions if there were no KudoZ points. http://www.proz.com/forum/poll_discussion/150167-poll_would_you_still_answer_kudoz_questions_if_there_were_no_kudoz_points-page2.html For more discussion on this: http://www.proz.com/forum/prozcom_suggestions/305705-improvement_of_the_translator_directory_search_results.html Verdi

[Edited at 2016-08-22 05:47 GMT] What does "say who" mean? Here it is: http://idioms.thefreedictionary.com/Says%20who? Btw, it may be just one letter, but say who and sayS who are two entirely different phrases. | | | Tom in London United Kingdom Local time: 21:14 Member (2008) Italian to English Finally - a good idea | Aug 22, 2016 |

Wow, even Tom in London, the no. 1 ranking in the Italian - English pair, agrees with it. A big salute for you, Sir. Aren't you afraid that the No.1 ranking is going to change hands quite often, Tom?
