Is it just me or some answers are rather awkward/imbalanced?
Why are there so many surveys about machine translation these days? Are they trying to change our minds or bludgeon us over the head until we get used to the idea? "See, it's normal. Everyone's doing it!"

My first thought about machine translation is that all the surveys about it make too many assumptions. They usually seem to be aimed at agencies and translators who work with agencies and I often find there are several questions that I am unable to answer, because they are geared to a different demographic. In fact, there you go - the proof of the pudding - I just started the survey and three or four questions in I already came up against one where my answer would need to be "sort of, but not quite"... which means I end up not being able to fill in the whole thing. At least not truthfully.

Please stop calling it "machine translation" altogether. Translation should be cultivated as a fine art, and if it is machined, it's not translation anymore. There's no machine painting or machine singing, and there's no machine translation. Call it whatever else you like, "Automated Language Conversion", or "Machine Tongue Transposition", or better yet "Computerized Rendition to Another Parlance", which gives the perfect acronym. | | | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » What are your thoughs on machine translation?
