Several areas and experiences were gateways to my career as a translator. As soon as I decided to become a full-time translator, I also found out all other experiences were a lot worse than the current one. Using a translator's experience as a gateway to another career, or a freelance job as a gateway to a regular in-house job, is a big mistake, an "involution".
