Source text - French Selon sa composition et la qualité de son fonctionnement, un conseil d’administration peut créer ou détruire de la valeur.
La société indienne de prestation de services informatiques Infosys, par exemple, estime qu’elle doit une grande partie de son remarquable succès à la qualité de son conseil d’administration. Celui-ci a été composé en apportant un soin particulier à la complémentarité des profils, de façon à pouvoir jouer un rôle actif dans les questions stratégiques. Sans se substituer à l’équipe dirigeante, les administrateurs aident celle-ci à réviser régulièrement ses hypothèses et à ouvrir le champ des possibles. De même, le conseil d’administration du groupe GlaxoSmithKline a joué un rôle clé pour anticiper et accompagner avec succès la succession du PDG Jean-Pierre Garnier.
À l’inverse, certains conseils d’administration n’ont guère d’autre impact que de consommer des ressources et le temps des dirigeants... Celui de Barclays Bank a été renvoyé dans sa totalité en 2012, après le scandale de la manipulation du LIBOR. Les administrateurs ont été accusés de ne pas avoir su travailler ensemble et assurer ainsi leur rôle de contrôle. Insuffisamment impliqués, manquant probablement d’expertise, gardant une réserve excessive, ils se sont vu reprocher d’avoir aveuglément accepté les propositions des dirigeants.

The Indian IT services company, Infosys, for instance, credits much of its remarkable success to the quality of the board. Particular care was taken to select complementary profiles when composing the board to ensure that the members are able to play an active role in strategic matters. Without attempting to stand in for the management team, board directors help operational leaders regularly revise their assumptions and broaden their potential options. Likewise, the board of directors of GlaxoSmithKline played a key role in planning and supporting the succession of CEO Jean-Pierre Garnier.
Some boards, on the other hand, have scarcely any impact other than consuming resources and management time. The entire board of Barclays Bank was revoked in 2012 following the LIBOR manipulation scandal. Directors were accused of not working in concert and thus of failing to ensure their supervisory role properly. Insufficiently engaged, probably lacking in expertise, and too passive, they were reproached for having blindly accepted the proposals of company leaders.

An American English native speaker, I was raised and educated in the U.S., before moving to France and receiving a Master's degree in Japanese and international commerce from the French National Institute of Oriental Languages and Civilizations in Paris. I now translate and interpret only from French to English.
For the past twenty years, I have worked primarily in the field of Management Consulting and Business Strategy, spanning a broad range of sectors and subject matters. Before becoming a full-time translator, I was a legal assistant for several years at a small international law firm specializing in cross-border mergers and acquisitions. The publishable quality of my translations, as well as the speed of delivery (750-1000 words/hour formatted, with glossary), has earned me the loyalty of a longstanding customer base for over two decades.
For larger projects, I am experienced in putting together crack translation teams to ensure that quality work gets delivered on time.
