Bio
WHO I AM

My name is Lisa, I’m a freelance translator and proofreader, under the business name S. Lisa Translations. I translate from German, English to French, my native language. I also offer proofreading of French monolingual texts, translation revision and machine translation post-edition (MTPE).

WHAT I’M WORKING ABOUT

  • law (contracts): my main area of specialization
  • marketing/communication texts: white papers, press releases, customer success stories, translation and proofreading of customer surveys, product and company presentations
  • press (articles, press releases)
  • NGOs
  • webtoons

As a volunteer, I have translated and reviewed a lot of texts for Translators without Borders, mostly information and training material for humanitarian workers in the health care field and childsafeguarding, and content related to quality assurance.
I'm also a contributor of Global Voices Online (press articles translation).

WHAT I HAVE LEARNED IN THE LAST YEARS

  • Current : specialization training course in legal translation
  • October 2020: online course about Legal German
  • July 2020: online courses about Legal English
  • June 2020: webinar about research strategy for translators
  • June 2020: webinar about English contract law

WHERE I COME FROM

I have a long education background in Classical Philology, that is Latin and Old Greek Studies, associated to a strong experience of the German language,
which I gained through language and literature courses at university, an
Erasmus year and four years studying Latin and French in Germany. English has always been an important work language
for me, through the use of academic texts in my research work during my
studies and the contact with non-German-speaking academic fellows.

WHAT I OFFER

  • language skills
  • precision
  • punctuality
  • good communication
  • respect of my clients’ requirements and needs
  • confidentiality
  • concern for proper knowledge and documentation about the projects I work and will be working on!

WHAT I LOVE ABOUT MY WORK

  • being "part of the flow" of knowledge, information that goes through the world and to facilitate it
  • the chance to put my language skills at the service of others
  • learning, learning and learning ;
not only because a translator can learn a lot of things about various
topics through the projects he/she works on, but also because it’s part of a translator’s career to continuously learn about current or future specialization areas.
