I have been asked to write this sentence in as many languages as possible. The facility (for mentally challenged people) in question has problems with people selling and begging, and these people come from many countries in Europe, so they would like to put a sign on the front door with this text in as many languages as possible. The facility is located in Finland.
It should be nicely phrased, and the translation can be free and idiomatic; the point is that there is no idea to sell and beg at this house, since the people that live there are retarded, and have no money.

not rude just a tad less nice and more clear ...mention the fact that the residents have no money (in capitals, bolded, underlined, etc).

selling agent On the one hand, even if we are trying to be polite we shouldn't distort the meaning of words. "Selling agent" means "agent de vanzari" and not "vanzator ambulant". On the other hand, the author could have used "peddling" instead of "selling" but he didn't. However, the asker requested a free translation therefore everyone is entitled to an opinion.

If I understand the asker's point correctly, our task was to suggest possible polite translations of the English sentence in question into Romanian. In Romanian "vânzător ambulant" is an existing term. The official version of this occupation can be read here: http://www.rubinian.com/produse_fise_de_post_cor.php?id=PRUF... Of course, in our case the inscription does not address people who do this officially, but still, it sounds more polite than "peddler". Or should we find a Romanian equivalent to "Gypsies! Keep out!"? Then "Beware of the dog!" would do - as MCristy suggested. :)

my (educated:)) opinion 'Nice' won't work. It won't get the message across. The bit about those people having no money would surely be more effective, although not quite as effective as a mean-looking dog...

selling agent I don't think "selling agent" is a correct translation for "vânzător ambulant". Even the French translation of commerçant/marchand ambulant is peddler

If we consider peddler "someone who travels about selling his wares", as Ms. Bolohan explained, then it is OK to say "vânzător ambulant" in Romanian, even it is no mention about them in the original sentence, because it is to be implied ("The facility... has problems with <bold>people selling<bold> and begging", as the asker explained the context, and as he also said: "the translation can be free". So I think, changing the activity with the people who do it, is nothing else but free translation.) Anyway, there is a second meaning (even according to thefreedictionary.com) of "peddler", which is quite pejorative, whereas "selling agent" (vânzător ambulant) has no negative connotation. I used informal words for "care facility" because people begging and selling stuff there are not very educated, sometimes illiterate. I also used informal language for "not welcome", something like "it does not make sense" to do that here.... The bracket choice is the other way, more formal.

neutral Virág-Lilla Rácz : I'm not sure "nu-și au rostul" (pointless) is more easily understandable than 'nu sunt binevenite' (unwelcome). "Welcome" (bine ați venit) is very common in both languages, and so it is "unwelcome" ("nu este binevenit").

Keep in mind, some if not most of those people are illiterate and come from different countries, they can't spell in their own language. I interpret a lot over the phone and that's the level I get.

The first translation provided is nicely phrased "Aceasta este o unitate de îngrijire. Activităţile de vânzare şi cerşetorie nu sunt binevenite." but as Ms Sanda pointed out "nu sunt binevenite - are not welcome" will be meaningless for said beggars and peddlars.

The noun peddler has two meanings:
1. someone who travels about selling his wares
2. an unlicensed dealer in illegal drugs
