I know that the answer 'mass study' was given, but mine has a totally different background, based on common practice in the field of architecture, nothing to do with large-scale research.
A mass study is often done follows the preliminary design.

| I search for quite some time in Google until I found this: kleur- en massastudie= model to study colour and volume. So they actually mean the little paper model that architects build. (Not at all what I was expectingwhen I saw the word "massastudie"!) I'm going to use 'volume study model' |
