Spanish term

ganancia acumulada

Spanish to English Bus/Financial Economics cumulative change in ag indicators resulting from Fpublic investment
This is from a report on scenarios developed for public investment in different agricultural sectors in Paraguay. This section discusses the cumulative change in the indicators (one of which is private consumption) over a seven-year period. The original text is:

Por ejemplo, la ganancia acumulada en términos de consumo privado se ubica en el rango 1 511 000 / 2 948 000 millones de guaraníes de 2014, dependiendo del sector.

My best guess is: For example, the cumulative gain in terms of private consumption is between ..., depending on the sector.

It seems there are different translations of ganancia acumulada, depending on the context. Thus, my doubt.

Thank you!

Discussion

Luis M. Sosa Oct 31, 2022:
Further context is on the order. Source is not that clear. As Phil has pointed out, this might not be about some company's bottom line. It seems to be about a macro variable, consumption expenditure in this case, which can be seen in national accounts. In that case, we should forget about annual reports, 10Ks and stuff like that here. I guess no company in Paraguay has the strength to generate '2 948 000 millones de guaraníes' or about 690m dollars in net profits even it that's a cumulative figure.

cumulative gain/imcrease

I agree with your suggested translation. I think "consumer spending" is more common than "private consumption".

agree Adrian MM. : with cumulative increase, rather than cumulative gain that has nowt to do with macro-economics https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cumulative_gain

dry powder

According to the reference information provided by Liz Askew, 'ganancia acumulada' is dry powder in English

What does Dry Powder mean for Reserves?

Talking of reserves denotes the cash reserves of a company or an individual. Cash reserves come in handy during tough financial conditions. So, a company or an individual builds up this to prepare for the unexpected downturn. A company with a lot of such liquid assets gets a financial advantage over others.

Such types of investments come in handy during a steep decline in the market. During a decline, investors can easily sell such assets to get cash. Also, the cash from selling such investments can be used to buy the stock at low prices during the decline.

Note from asker:
Thanks Liz, but does this sound like it relates to private consumption? Obviously, I'm not very familiar with the topic or I wouldn't be asking the question in the first place, but this doesn't sound like it's related to private consumption. ?
