Spanish term

atendiendo su afectación directa y evitable

Spanish to English Medical Medical: Health Care Gender mainstreaming in health
My main problem is "su afectación". I looked in our KudoZ database and the closest I got was 'imact', but I don't see how it fits here. And I can't figure out what "su" refers to. The text is from a list of recommendations for reducing gender inequality.

looking at (heedful of) the way they (the bio-males) are - directly and avoidably - affected

.... in emotional impact linked with.....

The problem with afectación is that affectation as a mannerism is often a false friend - whilst the meaning is more like an emotional impact, so *emotionally* affected - , whilst the state of being affected is clumsy in English in this context.

neutral Adrian MM. : afectación is a subjective state of the bio-males and 'their repercussions' is an extraneous and objective label that obscures what 'their' refers to.

Peer comment(s):

neutral Adrian MM. : afectación comes from the adjective of (ESP) afectivo cf. (FRE) affectif meaning emotional.//If you were a native Spanish speaker, you wouldn't be 'atendiendo a' looking at wayward refs.

You need to look at all the possible meanings of afectacion though. My references clearly show that it can mean "the way people are treated"/"treatment"
