Spanish term

Bloqueo de campo (anestesia)

Spanish to English Medical Medical (general)
Hi all,

I am translating a medical report and I am struggling with the term "bloqueo de campo", which is a type of anesthesia. This term is mentioned in a pre-operative assessment report:

4. TIPO ANESTESIA UTILIZADA (seleccionar la que corresponda)
General
Local
Combinada
Sólo sedación
Regional sin especificar
Troncular
Bloqueo de campo
Intradural
Epidural
Regional endovenosa

I have found the term "nerve block" but I am not sure it refers to the exact same type of anesthesia, as in Spanish we also have the term "bloqueo de nervios", "bloqueo nervioso" etc.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

Field block anesthesia

I think it's this:

"Field block anesthesia. Definition: conduction anesthesia in which small nerves are not anesthetized individually, as in nerve block anesthesia, but instead are blocked en masse by local anesthetic solution injected to form a barrier proximal to the operative site."

Another explanation:

"Although local anesthesia usually is used in surgical procedures, field or nerve blocks can provide more effective anesthesia in some situations. In a field block, local anesthetic is infiltrated around the border of the surgical field, leaving the operative area undisturbed. In field blocks, epinephrine may be added to the anesthetic to enhance vasoconstriction and prolong the duration of anesthesia. In a nerve block, anesthetic is injected directly adjacent to the nerve supplying the surgical field. "

agree neilmac : I think this is what I had for my wrist fracture. It's great watching the op, but agony when the anaesthetic wears off.
